Thomas Smith has a new girlfriend, Jillian wants to read her new book, Mallory has a new doll and Maya has the coolest shoes. But watch out. The bullies from Grade One are coming over. Its recess for the Kindergartens.

A school play ground including a sand box-The set can be decorated with plastic toys for little kids.

(Thomas sits on the edge of the sand box. He takes out a bag and pulls out a sandwich. He examines the sandwich. Smells it. Makes a face. He digs sand out of his bucket, and sprinkles it on his sandwich and takes a bite)

Mallory-(Enters with her doll-She sits down beside Thomas) Whatcha doin?

Thomas-(Does not respond and continues eating)

Mallory- (Shows Thomas her doll) This is my dolly. I call her Mallory. Whatcha doin?

Thomas-(Does not respond and continues eating)

Mallory-I had a cupcake today. It had sprinkles on it. Whatcha doin?

Thomas-(Looks at her as if he is about to respond and decides not to)

Jillian-(Enters and sits in the sandbox) Oh, what a day. What a day.

Mallory-(Shows Jillian her doll) See my dolly.

Jillian-(Takes out a book and starts reading) Shut up kid. You bother me.

Mallory-I had a cupcake.

Jillian-Sure you did kid. (Indicating her book) Oh, look at this moronic juxtaposition of words. See Spot run. Monosyllabic pablum for the masses. We can only hope that Spot runs into traffic. Wham, bam, pow! See Spot bleed.

Thomas-(Looks up as if he is about to speak and decides against it)

Mallory-(In shock) What happened to Spot?

Maya-(Enters and sits down on the other side of Thomas) I have got the coolest shoes.

Thomas-(Looks at her and offers her his sandwich)

Maya-(Looks at the sandwich) Please, that has sand on it. I don't eat sand anymore. I'm all grown up. Now I eat in restaurants.

Jillian-How fascinating for you. What restaurants do you frequent?

Maya-Where the cool kids go.

Jillian-Oh, please restrain me from asking, but where do all the cool kids go?

Maya-Are you ever out of the loop! McDonald's of course. (To Finn) Wanna be my boyfriend?

Thomas-(Opens his eyes wide and falls over in a faint)

Maya-I have that effect on boys. (To Jillian) What are you doing?

Jillian-It's called reading. These pages have a visual linguistic code which is made up of twenty-six individual units, which can be arranged in an infinite number of different ways to form complex sentences like See Spot Run.

Maya-I know you're reading. But why?

Jillian-So I don't have to develop social skills.

Maya-(Shrugs) Makes sense. (She then sees trouble approaching from off-stage) Oh, oh.

Jillian-(Follows her look) Gadzooks, it's the gang. Maybe if I freeze they won't notice me.

(Grade Ones-Charlotte and Kendra enter)

Charlotte-(Pointing at Thomas) What's wrong with him?

Maya-I have that effect on boys.

Kendra-(Grabs Mallory's doll)

Mallory-Give that back to me!

Kendra-It's my doll now.

Mallory-Please give it back to me.

Jillian-Leave the kid alone.

Charlotte-Did you say something?

Jillian-Uh...no.

Charlotte-I didn't think so.

Kendra-(Pulls an arm off the doll) Here kid. Have an arm. (Hands Mallory the arm of the doll and laughs)

Mallory-(Looks at the arm in horror and cries)

A royalty of ten dollars per performance will be charged for any public performance of each play purchased, even if there is no admission charged for that performance. A one-time duplication fee of ten dollars will be charged to cover any copying and distribution of that script.
